Audyssey Sub Equalizer filter resolution

I am an AVS Forum member but thought I would ask my question here, FWIW I just purchased A new Audyssey Sub EQ hope to have it monday-tuesday....

 I would like to know the Filter res of the new Sub EQ ?? ....Please correct me if I am wrong....

 I believe it is Double that of the Built in Audyssey XT that comes with the AVR or PRE-PRO..

 XTs filter res is 128x for LFE output... 128 points of Eq for LFE channel/ Sub output?

 Thus the Audyssey Sub EQ has 256x filter res per output(x2).... 256 points of EQ per channel ?

 So is this Audyssey Sub EQ the Same res as the SVS version sub eq ? as dougmcbride posted on AVS that the fillter res has just been doubled in there SVS Sub EQ unit once the new firmware has been applied..

    The MultEQ XT filter resolution of the Sub Equalizer is indeed twice what is possible in AVRs or PrePros because we can use the entire DSP chip in the Sub Equalizer to process the signal. The filters are not 128 points, they are thousands of points. The 128x indication is a multiplier that shows the relative improvement in resolution compared to the very basic filters found in some of the lower AVR models. 

    There is a new version of the Sub EQ firmware that is about to be released that will further double the resolution of the filters in the Sub Equalizer. Your dealer will be able to provide you with information on how to update the firmware as soon as it is released.

    So would you expect that adding a Sub Equaliser to a system with MultEQ XT will provide a significant improvement in bass performance?

    Yes, the Sub Equalizer offers two significant advantages:

    1. Much higher resolution filters in the subwoofer channel
    2. The ability to equalize two subwoofers by first time and level aligning them and then applying the MultEQ correction to the sum

    The Audyssey algorithms in the two products are identical.  The only differences are that the Sub Equalizer is intended for the installer market and requires the separate Audyssey Pro Kit in order to calibrate.  It also allows an installer to calibrate two subwoofers in two different rooms.

    Thanks Chris.  Comparing the Pro Setup Kit to the accessories that come with the AS-EQ1 (in particular the mic) is there potential for the Audyssey Sub EQ to give better results?

    The Audyssey Pro mic is individually calibrated by serial number and this makes it more accurate, but that improvement is really only apparent in the high frequency range. The consumer and Pro mics have equivalent performance in the low frequency range.

    Yes, it is enabled simply by running MultEQ Pro v. 3.2.

    So I'm to understand then that by running the latest version of MultEQ Pro, the stand-alone Audyssey platforms will automatically check for the latest firmware and update if required? It really is that simple?

    The question above was about the Sub Equalizer.  The firmware was already on it, and the higher filter resolution is enabled if you use MultEQ Pro v. 3.2 or higher to run the calibration.

    My interest in the question was particularly about mention of firmware. Are there different versions of firmware for the Audyssey stand-alone products? If so, how do you check what firmware is loaded on an Audyssey product, and if you don't have the latest version, is that something an end user or Installer can update?

    I believe it is all in the software, rather than a firmware update for the Auyssey unit itself.

    The firmware that shipped with the original Sub Equalizer or Sound Equalizer has not changed.  The Sub Equalizer firmware was capable of running higher resolution filters and this was enabled by the software in v. 3.2.

    That's what I thought. It's just that the seller of eBay item #130427627894 is spruiking their ASE has having had a recent factory firmware upgrade. That's what lead to my confusion.
