Smaller room and DSX

My room is 12' long, 10' wide. TV would hang on the wide wall. On that end, the wall is 6' high. On the back end (where one would sit to watch), the wall is 8'. Other than a small window on the right long wall and a short door on the other long wall, the room is walled completely in thick knotty pine paneling.

So...I am thinking I'd like to put a 9.1 DSX system in here, driven by an Onkyo 1007.

Placement, I' thinking, would be center under the TV, which sits close to the ceiling on the 6'x10' wall. I'd then put the center beneath the TV. The fronts I'd put on either side of the TV in the corners. I'd then put the heights above those fronts, in the corner of the the wall and ceiling. The wides I'd put at the corner of the ceiling and the long wall in the middle of the room. The surrounds I'd put in the back corner of the wall and ceiling.

Wondering if the room is simply too small to justify the effort and, more importantly, experience DSX.

    The room is pretty small and will make speaker placement tricky, but it will make DSX even more useful because part of what it provides is a sense of wider soundstage.

    It's usually better to have the front of the system (with TV) along the narrower wall, but I don't know if that's possible in your case. The room is nearly square so it may not make a big difference.

    The Heights need to be placed outside of the fronts if possible. If not, just place them as high as you can and point them down to the listening area.

    The Wides need to be at the same level as the fronts, so they should not be placed up high. I would put them on the side walls near the front of the room. When you run MultEQ it will take care of adjusting their levels and delays.

    Would it be ok to use in-wall speaker for the wides, since they can't be angled toward the listening area, the tweeter is directional but since they would be facing each other that might negate the benefits of the wides.

    It's OK to use in-walls for DSX Wides, but I would suggest looking for ones that allow you to point the tweeters to the listener.
