Integra DTR-70.1 and DSX

Hi Chris,

I installed Audyssey Pro in an Integra DTR-70.1 and played with the DSX settings. Although the AVR is a 9.2, I'm not able to use the surround back speakers with "Audyssey DSX". I looked at your examples (http://www.audyssey.com/technology/dsx.html) but I'm not able to get these configurations. I have 2 front, 2 front-wide, 2 front-high, 2 surround, 2 surround-back, center and subwoofer. Valid combinations could be: SB+FW or SB+FH or FW+FH.  With PLIIx (and some other sound modi)I do get the SB channels, but with "Audyssey DSX" the SB channels are not used: I only can switch between FW and FH.

Am I missing something here?

    Hi Ron,

Audyssey DSX does not generate Surround Back channels.  It is designed to add Wides and Heights.  That's why we show the Surround Back channels in white on the diagram.  They are generated by other systems such as PLIIx.  So, to use DSX Wides with Surround Back you have to have PLIIx engaged.

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your reply.

But, what about this configuration 9.1 Surround A? (5.1 plus Audyssey wides and heights)

I'm not able to upload a picture.

    Hi Ron,

Not sure what your question is about 9.1 Surround A.  In a product that supports both DSX Wides and Heights you can listen in this configuration without the Back Surrounds.  The point we are trying to make with the diagrams is that Audyssey DSX is scalable.  You can have Wides, Heights, or both (in products that support both).

    Hi again,

My Integra DTR-70.1 does not offer this configuration (both wides and heights without BS). I wanted to know if this is a limitation (or intention) of Integra or Audyssey? Reading your answer, I guess it is a limitation of Integra.

    Thanks, Ron.

    Hi Ron,

The only available product that offers both DSX Wides and Heights at the same time today is the Denon AVR-4810.

Is this still the case? Or are there other products that support Back, Wides and Heights at the same time? I was just about to buy an Integra DTR-70.1 until I read this.

According to your MultEQ Pro 3.3 Release Notes from the 29th of June 2010 these models support wide and height speakers:

    • Denon AVR 4310, AVR 4810, AVR 3311 (with DSX wide and height sound
      stage)
    • Integra DTR 80.1, DTR 70.1, DHC 80.1 (with DSX wide and height sound stage)

    Hi Dan,

There are more models coming out that enable Audyssey DSX Wides and Heights at the same time.  The models you list above (except for the AVR-4810CI) support one or the other, but not both.  Please take a look here for a current list:

    http://www.audyssey.com/products/?tech=10&cat_filter=38

Look for "Audyssey DSX enabled for both Heights and Wides"
