What sort of speakers should I shop for for the front-height and wide channels for Audyssey DSX? I get the impression they should be small and I assume they should match. Are there any specifications or recommended speakers in particular? Could I possibly get an example?

Audyssey Labs The general idea is to have the DSX Wide and Height speakers match the timbre of your front LCR speakers. Typically this is achieved by using speakers from the same family line as the fronts.

Hicksmarine Can you expand that with some more details? I.e. direct or dipole? I have an Onkyo TX-NR3007 9.2 channel receiver, Klipsch RF-82 floorstanding front L/R, an RC-62 center, RS-52 R/L surrounds (dipole), and an Infinity SW-12 sub. I don't want the viewing area to be dominated by speakers so I was looking at something a little smaller than my surrounds (XL-12 and XB-10). They are not in the same "family" but they are a more reasonable size and price than my surrounds. Nothing in the same family really fits my size or budget requirements. I am currently trying to find out if my receiver will drive the front high and front wide at the same time if the rear surround are not used.

Audyssey Labs Audyssey DSX Wides and Heights should be direct radiators. Smaller speakers will be fine. Running MultEQ will help bring their response closer to that of the fronts.

Thomas Andersson A related question. Planning on using Dali Mentor speakers for all positions but different models (so basically 3 sizes).
The smallest size (Mentor 1) is the only wall mountable (although Mentor 2 on a shelf might be an option) so it will be High, front will be Mentor 6 or 8, Surround Mentor 2 and back (if at all) Mentor 1.
Question is what's the best option for the wide, use Mentor 2 and match it to the surround or the smaller Mentor 1 and match it to the High (being the other DSX speaker)? -
Audyssey Labs Hi Thomas,
It won't make a huge difference because bass management will take care of the smaller speakers. I would lean towards the ones that more closely match the L, C, R.

Wim Van Den Broucke Hi there, I'd like to point out the following; I have an Onkyo TX-NR3008 with M&K speakers. I must say that I use TRIPOLE M&K Column Surrounds CS-29 speakers as Wide speakers DSX and this works absolutely great ! I first was sceptical about using tripole speakers for this, but as said it really works ; I hear much more detail and the front stage comes closer to my ears with this. The M&K tripoles are also almost next to the listening area (as would you use side surrounds), so I currently use also 1 pair M&K tripoles as surrounds (in place of the back surrounds). These M&K tripoles (direct and dipole in one) do work combined with Audyssey Wide. My experience with this is very positive... For what it's worth...
