What is the difference between MultEQ and MultEQ XT?
-
Audyssey Labs You can read about the differences here.
The key difference is the resolution of the filters. MultEQ XT can correct much finer details in the response, particularly in the low frequency range of the satellite speakers.

Thomas Bapu Sir,
I am trying to discern the differences between MultEQ and MultEQ XT. I read the page you referenced. Can you elaborate on what 2x vs 16x "Filter resolution (satellites)" or what "resolution of the equalization filters" actually means? How does that relate to the actual processing? Number of freq centers that can be adjusted? The coarseness of their spacing? Number of possible time alignment corrections? Something else? If this is proprietary information, can you provide some other additional information which is not? I am just trying to better understand the tradeoffs between the two versions.
-Thanks
Thomas

Audyssey Labs Higher filter resolution means that the MultEQ XT filters can make corrections to narrower peaks and dips in the response. This is particularly evident in the low frequency range of the main speakers. So, MultEQ XT will give you a flatter response down to lower frequencies than what MultEQ can achieve. The ability to increase the resolution is purely dependent on the processing power that the AVR manufacturer allocates to Audyssey in each of their products.

Brian Hampton When I read about the differences between MultEQ and MultEQ XT, I see satellites and I read that as surround speakers not including the front and center. Is that correct or when satellites are mentioned as having lower rez filters does that refer to all speakers apart from the SW.
-
Audyssey Labs Yes, "satellites" refers to all the speakers in a system other than the subwoofer.

Paolo Hi Chris..
I understand the meaning of your explanation on the different ability between Multi EQ XT and Multi EQ:
-1) more resolution -> more ability to set the curve flat.
-2) this ability depends on the hardware..
I read the content of this page :
http://www.audyssey.com/audio-technology/multeq
But the number 16X for the filter resolution of the satellites for Multi EQ XT is still not clear what mean:
is the meaning that the hardware permit to control in 16 point from 500 Hz to 20 kHz (the supposed work range for the satellite..) ?
and for another example :
128X in the filter resolution Subwoofer..mean that the software can intervene in 128 point from 30 Hz to 500 Hz..?
And if i'm right what are the range for the subwoofer and the satellites..?
Thank you in advance..
I'd like to undestand before buying..i'm sorry but i'm an old electronical engeneer..
thank you for the time you dedicate to answering me..
Paolo.

Audyssey Labs Hi Paolo,
16x means "16 times more". We don't publish the exact resolution of the filters. MultEQ has dozens of control points (many more than 16). MultEQ XT has hundreds. MultEQ XT32 has more than ten thousand.
-
Paolo Hi Chris..
Thank you very much! Now it's clear. For example the number of intervention (action) points of the Multi EQ XT 32 is 512 time bigger than the intervention points than in the original Multi EQ.. It's Right..?

Paolo Sorry i made i mistake in writing.. the correct phrase is "512 time bigger than ...2 EQ" and not Multi EQ..
Paolo.

Audyssey Labs Καλησπερα Paolo (Παυλο?). Yes, that's right. XT32 has 512 times more points that XT, which means that the filter resolution is 512 times finer than XT.

Paolo Ok..now it's clear..so the XT 32 have 512 times more points than the XT.
I ask you this information because yesterday in the city of Milan here in Italy i've participate to the "Top Audio Video Show" http://www.topaudio.it/
Here i assisted to a demonstration of a PAC (Phase Amplitude Correction) and the person who introduce this product inform that this product have a resolution of 65535 point.
He inform us that the best products implemented in the normal AV receiver have at maximum 512 points...
That's the reason why i'd like to have more info about it..because it's sound strange to me that it could be a so big difference..

Audyssey Labs He is wrong... In any case, Audyssey is scalable. The limitation is the available processing in the chip that the manufacturer chooses. I would love to see how he thinks he can fit 65k points on existing products. Non penso...
