do any dsx products decode both the height and with channels?and if so are there any shipping models that pre out so another amp can be used.I would love to implament both,I was also wonder do the receivers with back surrounds still out put those signals when dsx is engaged?in other words can I have my cake and eat it too.7.2 channel surround plus the additional 4 dsx channels playing back at the same time?
-
Austin According to Chris (see above), only the Denon AVR-4810CI and AVR-4311CI can do 11.1 or 11.2. He seems to know a thing or two. :) I am convinced that the capability is not there with any Onkyo product.
However I do not understand why the Marantz AV7005 preamp/processor will not do 11.1 / 11.2. It has all the preamp outputs. Chris if you could confirm this for certain please, many thanks.
The Marantz does have the advantage of balanced outputs for long runs to active speakers. However, I notice they are only 7.2 and so nothing special. I'm sure others offer 7.2 balanced outputs, but not next to 11.2 unbalanced. What to make of this?
-
Audyssey Labs The Marantz AV7005 is a 7.1 system. It allows you to connect all the speakers, but you can't use more than 7 at a time. So, you can select Wide, Height, or Back Surround in addition to the standard 5.1.
-
Austin Thanks for confirming Chris.
-
David Ferebee Thanks for your help. After re-reading the manual for my Onkyo TX-NR5008 you all are correct. Although you can connect wires for 11 speakers you can only play 9 at the same time:( Unfortunately no work around:(

Greg Bullock Chris - What about the possibility of a petition to the manufacturers expressing the desire to market 11 channel Audessy systems. I am a Dealer/Installer. I see 11 channel sound similar to Anamorphic home theaters. Once a client with the necessary resources experiences the technology they will have it if possible. It also seems to be one of the few advanced technologies to market to the mid to high end user. All your help is appreciated.
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Greg, I would be all for that. We have been "petitioning" for a while now, but there are of course cost issues with the higher processing power required for more channels.
-
Greg Bullock Any suggestion on how to proceed? I will of course email a request to all the manufacturers. Maybe if there where some way to show you have a potential customer base out there. I may be wishing for to much in this industry, at this time. Processors are always getting cheaper though. Again, I want to thank you for your help. It is rare to have this kind of support network built around a technology.
-
Audyssey Labs Yes, emailing the request would be a good start. Perhaps getting support from others via the popular forums would help show a willing customer base as well.
-
David Ferebee Denon and Onkyo would be a good place to start since they both have models that already have speaker connections for 11 speakers. It does not seem like it would be too much trouble to add two more amps and a decoder chip. I will buy the first one that comes to market.
-
Logan Robertson Hi Chris. Are there any more models supporting all 11 channels or are there any in the works? Should we expect to see any 11.1 new models at cedia from say Marantz or Denon? Thank you.
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Logan,
We have to wait for product announcements from the AVR makers and can't really talk about features in upcoming products. -
Greg Bullock Chris, is there a such thing as a external Audessy DSX device. One that could be employed using preamp? Can a computer be programmed to preform this function? I continue to hound the reps when possible, but I am not sure it is having and effect.
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Greg,
No we don't make any external processing devices.
-
Adam Kulvicki Hi Chris,
Denon just anounced their new line for 2012. Does the AVR 3313 support 11.1 Audessy DSX?
Thanks!
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Adam,
This a 7-channel product so it does not support 11-channel DSX.
-
Greg Bullock Hello everyone. I am a reseller, unfortunately I am seeing a move back to 7.x systems. I am seeing fewer new units with 9.x and nothing that supports 11.x, even with additional amp. This seems backwards as the new Ultra High Definition standard is capable of 22.2 encoding. I guess it just didn't sell. Chris if you have anything to add please do, I would love to be wrong.
-
David Ferebee Bummer, guess I will have to pick up a Denon 4311:(
-
Adam Kulvicki I was reading an article on audioholics regarding the Onkyo TX-NR818. They mention that "technically, it can do 11.1 but that hasn't been implemented yet". What does this mean? The hardware will support 11.1 but the software doesnt?
Full quote:
Plus, there is a the inclusion, on top of the Dolby Prologic IIz and Audyssey DSX, of the brand new DTS Neo:X DPS which allows for front wide and front height channels (technically, it can do 11.1 but that hasn't been implemented yet).

Also, what is the difference between 2EQ and XT32?
-
David Ferebee Here is the scoop on Audyssey difference from their website:
MultEQ XT32Our newest and most accurate room correction solution with more than ten thousand individual control points allowing finer details of the room’s problems to be captured and corrected. The ultra high resolution filters are applied to all channels including the subwoofers, with the most obvious benefit being heard in the low frequency range where correction is needed the most.
MultEQ XTOur advanced resolution room correction solution with high resolution equalization filters for satellites and subwoofers. Most products with MultEQ XT are installer-ready and can be calibrated by an Audyssey Registered Installer to provide even higher performance for even the most demanding large or odd-shaped rooms.
MultEQOur standard resolution room correction solution that uses mid-level resolution filters for satellites and subwoofers.
2EQOur basic resolution room correction solution that uses basic resolution filters for the satellites, but does not apply a filter to the subwoofers.

David Ferebee "I was reading an article on audioholics regarding the Onkyo TX-NR818. They mention that "technically, it can do 11.1"
I have an Onkyo NR5008 which you could say does 11.2 but even though you can hookup all 11 speakers to the receiver you can only play 9 of them at the same time. Basically you have to choose between the Front Highs or Front Lows, or you can play both the FH and FL at the same time but have to sacrifice the Rear Surrounds. Maybe that is what they are talking about when they say "techinically".

Jeffery Rasmussen Pleases tell me what av receiver company are expected to do 11.2 Channel 11-ch amp Audyssey DSX for Heights or Wides? And when can it be expected?
And ensures that the level and delay for each subwoofer is correct before integrating them into the equalization solution?
Since “Audyssey DSX technology delivers true 7.1, 9.1 and 11.1 surround sound. The result isn’t just the most immersive, realistic home theater sound on the market, but a new standard in surround sound.Audyssey”.
“Audyssey Sub EQ HT ensures that the level and delay for each subwoofer is correct before integrating them into the equalization solution”. Is this also part of the DSX technology?
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Jeffery,
We don't know the product plans of AVR makers. They decide first and then inform us. So far we are not aware of any products, but new announcements come at the end of summer usually before the CEDIA show in the US.
SubEQ HT is not related to DSX. It's an extension of the room correction algorithms we have developed and is an option that some AVR models have included.
-
Austin Hey Chris, what speaker type would you recommend for each channel in 11.x configuration? (mono-pole, bi-pole, di-pole, etc.)
-
Audyssey Labs Front LCR: direct radiators
Wides: direct radiators
Heights: direct radiators
Surrounds: dipoles
-
Austin Thanks Chris. What about surround back? Also is this documented somewhere for reference purposes?
-
Audyssey Labs Surround back can be either direct or dipole. Not a big difference.
-
Manuel Hey Chris, waht about the Denon AVR - A100? Is it capable to run full 11.2 DSX? Or any other AVR than Denon 4810/4311?
-
Audyssey Labs Hi Manuel,
Yes, the A100 has the same digital platform as the 4311 so it supports 11.2 (with an external 2-ch amp needed for channels 10 and 11).
-
David Ferebee Hi Chris, I have 11.2 speakers connected to my NR5008 and am patiently waiting for a new receiver that will allow playing all 11 speakers at the same time that has front highs and front wides. In the meantime I noticed that after running Audyssey all the levels of my speakers range from -2 to -5. To give me more volume is it ok to add 5 to each level so they range from +3 to 0? Or can I add even more level to get more volume?
-
Audyssey Labs Hi David,
If you want the system to play louder then you should turn up the volume control, not the speaker levels. If you change the speaker levels then Dynamic EQ will no longer be properly calibrated to reference. Each speaker level is calibrated so that (1) it will match the others in playback volume and (2) it will play at reference level when the volume control is set to 0.
