Audyssey processing of analog signals

Hi,

I have a digital receiver (Integra DTR 6.8 with Audyssey EQ XT). Does the Audyssey process both analog and digital inputs to the receiver?

    If you are asking about the 2-channel analog inputs, then yes these are converted to digital in the Integra and sent to the Audyssey algorithm. However, Integra does not convert the multichannel analog inputs to digital and so they don't go through any digital processing (no bass management, no Audyssey, no surround modes, etc.). If the Audyssey logo is lit on the front panel then you can be sure that your signal is being processed by Audyssey.

    How much "information loss" does happen in the analog -> digital -> analog processing chain? I assume that it is better to connect the cd player via an optical cable so that no analog - digital conversion takes place. Is this correct?

    Yes, a digital connection is better.  It's not that information is lost via the analog connections, but the final quality will depend on the quality of the A/D and D/A converters that the manufacturer is using.  Keep in mind, however, that the problems introduced by the room acoustics are much much bigger than any potential artifacts you may hear from an analog connection.
