Speaker Matching Error

At the first set-up positon Audyssey measures and drives all six of my speakers. When asked to move the mic to measure the second position I get "matching speaker error", and it doesn't recognize my front right speaker. I bi-amped my fromt speakers and all terminals are correctly attached. Any idea as to why this error is happening?

    I also noticed that the grahic for the front right speaker is missing from the screen in step 2

    Hi all,

    The Onkyo X007 (biamped) right front "speaker mismatch error" during audyssey setup is solved by firmware upgrade. Prior to firmware upgrade all speakers but the front speakers made the characteristic setup sounds with a high frequency click in the end. Prior to firmware upgrade, the click sound was not played by the front speakers - it was only the right one that was not detected after first round of the setup however. After firmware update also the front speakers made the high frequency click sound after which both were detected during subsequent rounds. I am now very satisfied with the result of the setup.

    I changed to normal A speaker setup and it is progressing fine.  Seems strange that during the first pass the highs from the A speakers were coming from the woofers.  I'm sure I wired them as in the Onkyo manual.

    I think the low frequency sound is correctly being sent to the woofers.  What we don't know is if the lack of high frequency sound is due to damaged or not properly connected tweeters (due to some glitch in the bi-amping setup).

    I'm thinking bi-amping is the issue also.  Not easy to access the speakers, but will give it a shot.  Before I do, since you are working on a holiday (!) do you think perhaps the low sound is do could be due to the bi amping high frequency being fed to the woofers?

    Tom: can't say for sure what the problem is.  But, it is related to Audyssey not receiving the frequency range it needs.  This can be due to a blown tweeter or a biamping connection problem.  I suggest you try your speakers with standard connections (no bi-amping).  If everything runs fine that way the culprit is in the bi-amping setup.

    Jeff: this definitely sounds like blown tweeters.  You should clearly be able to hear the tweeters with normal high frequency content.

    One more thing - I have an Onkyo 5507, which runs the same firmware as the 3007.

    Same problem for me too, except I am not bi-amping.  Here's the timeline: updated firmware on Onkyo pre/pro 7/3.  Decided to re-run Audyssey on early 7/4 as I have a new sub and two new PAradigm speakers.  I get the exact same scenario as above, with the error and missing graphic for the R. Front.  I dragged out the old Infinity Primus speakers and Audyssey runs fine.  Hmmmmm.  Come to think of it, both sets of speakers sound "bass-y."  Blown tweeters on both sets?  When I place my ear right next to the tweeter, I don't hear anything coming out.  How loud are tweeters supposed to be?

    This usually happens if the microphone is not picking up the full frequency range. It could be because the tweeter is pointing away from the mic or because the tweeter is not working. Please try to verify that the tweeter is indeed working by playing some high frequency content and comparing it to the L speaker.

    I just purchased an Onkyo 3007 and have the same problem - bi-amped front speakers and step 2 does not recognize the front right.  During the first part, the A speakers have just a low tone (both left and right) and the B seakers emit a tone similar to center and rears, even though the B speakers are disabled in the audyssey setup.

    Clearly not a speaker issue with three different models and all the front right.  Is it possible the bi-am[ed setu is to blame?  when i exit audyssey, the front right tweeter is not functioning but after switching from A to B and back to A, the tweeter plays fine.  Sure sounds like a software glitch

    The speakers seems to be in perfect working order and they sound identical. I will recheck my connections, but since I also use bananaplugs on the receiver end for the front speakers I doubt I could have failed connecting the speakers. Thanks also for commenting on my firmware update problem - it did however download the file but hung during the install process (writing to dsp3 98%... - or something like that). I will make sure to post if the problem gets solved..

    Jacob, I had seen the tweeter comment several times, however that wasn't the fault on mine I believe as my speakers are in good order. I remade all the connections again with everything (speaker + cable and amp + cable).. playing close attention to the connections. I was pretty careful before, but I opted to use banana plugs on the amp end, and when I'd finished I re-ran the set up and it worked. Give it a go and see... I managed to get the firmware update going via ethernet.. one thing i would suggest to check is that check the IP address for the router on the amp. Most of my stuff is 192.168.0.XX I noticed the onkyo kept trying me on 192.168.1.XX a small difference but you never know.

    Hi Jacob,

    This is not a firmware update issue.  It is most likely due to a damaged tweeter in your speakers.  Please verify that the tweeters are working correctly by playing some high frequency content (above 3000 Hz) and listening to the tweeters carefully.

    Hi, I have the exact same problem with my Onkyo tx-nr1007 as described by Kerryszych and Andy - especially annoying to get stuck at second listening position when 1st seems to go through fine - my front speakers are bi-amped like described in the other examples - hope it will be corrected in by firmware update of the receiver.. (tried this once over internet, but it failed..)

    Hi, I get the same problem with my new onkyo TX-NR1007, thing is, it measures the 5.1 speakers ok for the 1st listening position, but then when it moves on to the 2nd listening position (even if I've not moved the mic at all), it claims speaker matching error.

    What could have changed to make it suddenly chuck this error up ? Makes no difference at all where I place the mic for the 2nd position. Thought it might have been the mic but it managed to record the 1st listening position !? So am confused.

    The first thing is to verify that the tweeters are indeed working correctly in your speakers.  If they are, then you should try resetting the microprocessor in the AVR as described in the manual.

    Hi Chris,

    I've just bought the Onkyo TX-SR607 and i am using Sony speakers model SA-VS150H and connected only to 5.1.  When I ran the Audyssey setup it always gives me "speaker detected error" on LF speaker and it will not continue to the next speakers so I have to Cancel or run again and with the same error. Cable polarity to speaker were correct, I only used SL/SR not the Back So. Any suggestions on how to make the setup work? I have tried switching speakers bu still the same. The Speakers are all brand new so I dont think they are broken.
