speaker error detect-how to solve

hi, i just bought onkyo 508 and Jamo s606 5 speaker with sub 250. i run audyssey calibration from onkyo, and it stated center speaker "--". i tried few times it come out same result. when i interchange my FL cable to my center speaker, error message appear on FL. My living hall area for Home theater setup is 9ft x9ft. SPeaker distance is detected as 3.6 m for FL,FR and Center. 2.1m for SL, SR. Whn do calibration, all speaker test tone can be heard. speaker distacne was  calculate and shows in the setup. but just dunno why error message keep coming out and can't detect my center speaker

called technican from shop, they came to check and same result.

if i play music or movie, all channel produce sound.
,,is it because of my center speaker placement too low from ear level? or its too near to my Front speaker? or too near to my TV?

i put the mic on sofa head. is it one of the factor?

Do you have another cable to try?  This sounds like a connection problem.  Do your speakers have separate tweeter and woofer connectors on the back?  Sometimes these can come loose and sound doesn't play from the tweeter.  Please check those as well to make sure they are properly connected.

If the cable and connections are fine then I would make sure that the speaker is working correctly.  Sometimes a driver in the speaker may be damaged and this would cause this error during the measurement process.

Hearing sound is not enough.  Please make sure that the tweeter is working.  Play content with high frequencies and listen closely to the tweeter on each speaker.  If it is damaged then you will get the error you are getting.

    Please try the following:

Connect the left speaker to the center amplifier terminal.  Also connect the center speaker to the left amplifier terminal.  Then run Audyssey again.

Which speaker now shows the problem?

    Hi Murali,

Please read the set up tips for subwoofers here: http://ask.audyssey.com/forums/84181/entries/76175.html

Is there a filter on your sub? Where is it set?  Where is the level knob set?

Where is the volume set on the sub?  When the chirps play do they repeat at a louder level?

Hi Chris, Volume can be adjusted with remote or from the button available from the back of sub. While calibrating, the subwoofer is producing sound - not too loud..

I just ran the AUTO EQ of sub and it looks fine..

If the sound level is too low then the sub may not be detected by MultEQ.  Does the pattern of chirps repeat louder?

Hi Chris, i can confirm that the chirps repeat louder.

Somehow they are not getting loud enough for the mic to pick up a useful signal.  This can be because there is background low frequency noise that the mic hears.  This can be difficult to hear with our ears because we are much less sensitive to bass.  Another common reason is electrical noise that enters the system.  Usually from a ground loop.  Try disconnecting all source devices (especially the cable box) from the receiver.  Light dimmers should be turned all the way off.

Hi Chris, i swap the audyssey microphone to the one supplied with subwoofer and the calibration worked. thanks for your support

That would indicate a problem with your mic.  There is a calibration file for the mic built in to the AVR.  If you use a different microphone then the measurements are totally off.  I recommend that you contact Onkyo or techsupport@audyssey.com to order a replacement mic.  Perhaps yours was somehow damaged--this can happen, for example, from static electricity or exposure to very high humidity.

Hi Chris, I recently bought an onkyo receiver TX-NR709. I have the same issue as described above. When I run the audysses speaker setup, the surround back left is not found. I already switched speakers but it's always the surround back left speaker which has a problem. The strange thing is that when the setup is running you can see which speaker the system is testing, but when the surround back RIGHT is tested it first produces sound through the SB right and then throught the SB Left. But on the TV the SB Right is still selected and then the setup stops and displays an overview off al the speakers and only the SB Left is not correctly found. I have 5 speakers and a subwoofer. Have you any idee why this problem occurs.

    Hi Kristof,

This is a very common problem that happens because of the confusing names of speakers in surround sound.  If you have a 5-channel surround system then the surround speakers MUST be connected to the LSurr and RSurr terminals even if they are "in the back".  The Back Surround terminals are only to be used if you have a 7-channel surround system.

Hi Chris, that was indeed the problem. Now after the setup the surround left gives a cracking noise. I already tested with an other speaker and another cable and always the same issue. Is this a setting problem or a problem with the surround left out on my onkyo receiver?

This sounds like an amplifier problem in the AVR...
