Dynamic EQ

Hi Jeremy,

The room correction is MultEQ not Dynamic EQ.  And negative numbers means that it's cutting at these frequencies.  That could be because of a room mode and not all that unusual.

I have a Denon 2310. After setting Audyssey and selecting Multyeq as my preferred curve, I switch Dynamic EQ on. This causes a hissing/static sound from all my speakers (It is always in the background but very noticeable when I pause a CD). The higher the Dynamic EQ Reference Offset Level, the worse the static/hiss. Switching off Dynamic EQ totally solves the problem. I have tried rerunning Audyssey initial setup but the problem does not go away. Can  you please offer any help/advice?

Daniel, this sounds like a hardware issue.  There is noise in the system that is made louder by the frequency-dependent adjustments that Dynamic EQ is making.  I would first start by disconnecting all the sources from the AVR--particularly the cable or sat box as they are notorious for injecting noise over the ground connection.  Other suspects are computer power supplies and light dimmers.  If the problem is not isolated to one particular source then I'm afraid you will have to contact Denon to have the hardware examined.  

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. When Dynamic EQ is off, there is absolutely no hiss/static from the speakers. It is purely being generated somehow by the Dynamic EQ.

Try turning the volume all the way up with Dynamic EQ off.  You will probably hear something there.  Dynamic EQ is just software.  It doesn't generate noise.  Noise comes from hardware.  If it's already there, it may sound louder with Dynamic EQ because of the boost it applies at certain frequencies.

I have the same problem as Daniel but only in the left front speaker i hav an onkyo tx-nr 3008.

I have tried too take ot everuthing from my router and sat box and my led lamp on tv it is the same louder in dynamic eq on but also in off.

What to do

Hi Peter, if the problem is there with Dynamic EQ on and off then it must be some type of electrical noise.  This can be from external sources, but it can also indicate a problem with something inside the AVR.  You may have to contact Onkyo Service to see if they can diagnose the problem.

Ok thanks chris for your fast respons y are doing a great job hope is it the avr beacuse i have tested to turn everything of with the same results. i have another question about your thoughts about intelli volume should i have it at 0db or as i have tried +12db the sound gest louder but do i lose in details.

I thought that I would give you some feedback. I tried rerunning Audyssey Setup. This gave similar results to previous runs and the 'noise' problem with Dynamic Eq on persisted. On a further rerun, the microphone failed.
Denon supplied me with a new microphone. I reran Audyssey SetUp and found that each of my speakers were set at a volume of either 6 or 5.5 db less than previously with all other information being the same. I do not know why but this totally solved the problem.

So if we isolate this to a satellite box for example...how can we eliminate the noise?

If the noise is coming in from the sat or cable box then you need to find an isolating transformer to put inline with the RG-6 cable that connects to the input of the box.

So can such noise travel through any sort of connection?  That is, RCA, component, video, HDMI, etc.?

Yes it can.  It comes in from the ground connection on the input so it's best to catch it there rather than each output cable.

I have the same issue when connecting my pc to my denon amp. Works fine on default settings but as soon as you turn on the audyssey a loud hiss comes from all speakers.

Turn off audyssey and the hiss completely disappears. I can adjust the offset level and change all the speaker settings and the hiss does not occur with it off. As soon as I turn on Audyssey the hiss returns.

I disagree with you Chris. I think this is a bug. The internet is riddled with similar posts. I never had this issue with Yamaha amp with exactly the same set up.

BUG!

It's not a bug.  We test every product and would fail it if it did that.  It is most likely an amplifier noise problem.  Audyssey filters boost certain frequencies based on the measurements and so, in your case, the frequencies where the hiss happens are being boosted when Audyssey is on.  I would have your amplifier checked out...
