Onkyo 3008 XT32 subwoofer level setup problem

Hi,

I recently bought a BK Monolith+ DF sub and wanted to recalibrate my setup using the Audyssey XT32. At the calibration start it asks to set the gain of the sub to 75db..if I do that I need to set the gain at almost zero for it to reach 75db...so my question is ...is this normal? On the sub there is also a high and a low level gain. I have almost no bass after callibration even if I set my center and L/R speakers from 40hz to 60hz crossover, LFE is set @ 120hz and also on the sub, phaze is set to 0.

I would appreciate some help as I allready used a guide to setup my system, but there is no mention on the volume setting of the sub in XT32!

I can't say what's "normal".  The levels of the sub and speakers are set so that they match reference (not preference) conditions.  If the sub has high gain then it will have to be turned down to achieve this.

Make sure that no speakers are set to Large (or Full Range).  That means: don't send bass to the sub and it's a terrible idea that we hope AVR makers will one day get over.

Well Onkyo doesn't have a switch between "Large" or "Small". I just know that the callibration sets the center and L/R speakers to 40hz which can be considered as "Large". So after callibration I set them manually to 60hz which is considered as the Large/Small crossoverpoint. Maybe setting them to 80hz (THX) would give me more bass from the sub?

Onkyo uses the term Full Band to indicate Large.  If the speakers are not set to Full Band then there is a crossover set and that means they are Small.  This is the correct setting for systems that have a subwoofer.  You can move the crossover to higher frequencies if you want to.  It will send more content to the sub as everything below the crossover frequency is sent to the sub.
