Audyssey technologies with older devices

I was wondering if the  technology could be used on equipment without the integrated Audyssey chip.

So let's say i have an older tuner which doesn't have the Audyssey chip onboard. Could I still use the mic with let's say laptop software and then calibrate it by hand with the recommendations from the Audyssey software?

Or is the chip required to function correctly? In that case i need to upgrade my hardware

    The MultEQ Pro software will only run if you are connected to a product that is enabled for it. It's not really a stand-alone measurement system.
