Causes of Incomplete Test Tone

Hello,

I tried configuring my new Onkyo TX-NR809 receiver using the Audyssey setup. I am running my front speakers as bi-amped. I have also tried the normal configuration. In both cases, the result is the same: the process stops after four chirps.

I am wondering what might cause the process to hang after four chirps on the front left speaker. Is this possibly an issue with the receiver? Or the microphone? I did run the firmware update but don't know if that could have been affected. I didn't try Audyssey before upgrading.

Thanks,
Greg

A bit more info: I tested a different speaker thinking it could have been another cause. Same results as before, however. The configuration hangs after 4 chirps on the front left speaker.

    Hi Greg,
It's rather odd that you only hear 4 chirps. What is the error message that you get?

I don't get any error message. It will literally sit there "measuring now" until I unplug the cable.

That sounds like a hardware problem with the AVR. In your manual it tells you how to do a microprocessor reset. Please try that. If it doesn't fix the problem I'm afraid you will have to contact Onkyo for service.

I had tried a reset already. Thanks for your help. I will contact Onkyo. I would assume if it's an issue with their firmware, it would be all over the Internet.

It's not an issue that I am aware of. This sounds like a faulty board to me, but they will able to tell you for sure.
