The amount of boost depends on many variables including the master volume setting, the content in the center channel, and the content in the other channels.  It is not a simple fixed boost for every volume setting. 

so the lower de volume the higher the boost will be?

Not necessarily.  It depends on where the dialog is and what else is happening in the mix.  It's an adaptive algorithm.

I just purchased a Denon AVR-1912 and, when using the dynamic volume on any of the settings (day, evening, night), I will occasionally get volume drop-off in the middle of some dialogue on movies or TV without any apparent change in background volumes as the cause. This is eventually followed by a gradual volume increase (fade in?) back to the original level of the dialogue.  It's almost as if there is a lag between the Audyssey's detection of a dynamic volume change and the execution of the leveling process. Is this normal, or do I need to make some form of adjustment?  Thanks!

Hi Tom,

That doesn't sound right... If you are getting drops in the signal it could be due to something happening in the source.  Yes, the recovery from silence is gradual to avoid jarring changes.  However, there should be no sudden drops caused by Dynamic Volume.  Do you see anything on the front display of the Denon?  For example a change from 5-ch to 2-ch indication when the drops happen?  Sometimes when the receiver is re-syncing to the incoming content it drops out as it switches to the other type of stream.

I have the same dropout issue as Tom with my 1912. I have a DVB-T (in Sweden) box connected over HDMI. It has been like this since I bought the receiver a few months ago. Is there something I could try to fix it?

We have been unable to reproduce this problem. It is most likely due to some issue with the incoming bitstream (perhaps corrupted packets).

Could be, I don't remember noticing it using my blueray player. I can of course turn the dynamic volume off, but it looks like a nice feature on paper so I kept trying different cables, settings etc.

is it normal for Dynamic Vol (I use Day mode) to take a couple of seconds after a master volume increase to set the levels accurately. Especially with Dynamic content

I.e if i feel that the overall volume is a little soft (usually noticed with dialogue) i'll up the master by 3dB, but the actual change in volume can take a couple of seconds longer after i've finished setting the master level.

Yes, this is normal.  Dynamic Volume is adjusting based on the changes in level it detects so it will take a bit to figure out where it needs to be when you change the volume.
