Speaker Distance Onkyo TX-NR509 2EQ

I am a bit confused about the speker distance measuring.

When I use the Quick Calibration Audyssey measures the speaker distance exactly.

But the Full Calibration gives 2 different results.

1. middle 2. right 3. left gives other values than 1. middle 2. left 3. right

I can do it 10 times but the difference is ever exactly the same.
This is a bit confusing, becaus the manual says: The first measuring point is crucial for speaker distance.

It seems so that Audyssey uses the second measurig point to calculate the distance.

Thanks, and I hope you can understand my bad english.

Hi, we have checked this and it's not the case.  The distance is always calculated from the first microphone position in all versions of Audyssey.  I wonder if there is something wrong with your unit.  Perhaps you could ask Onkyo Service to have a look.

    Thank you for your answer.

Onkyo support I've already written. I'm still waiting for a response.

It looks like I'm not the only one with the problem. In the German hifi forum I have several TX-NR509 found with this problem.

I will then wait and see what the Onkyo support.

That's strange.  The 509 that we have here doesn't have this issue.  We will check with Onkyo.

    Ok thank you.

Did your 509 have the latest firmware?

And U.S. 509 and 509 of Europe are not identical.

E.g. U.S. 509 has no Pure Audio mode. But a "music optimicer" button on the left side. The European model has there the "Pure audio" button.

Yes, our 509 has the latest firmware.  But, it is the US model.  We are checking with Onkyo on the European model.

Onkyo has reproduced the problem and is working on a solution.  I will update you as we hear more details.

Is the Onkyo 509 the only one with this problem?  I swear my 609 had a similar output.  I just changed them to reflect what I measured with a tape measure...hope that's the best thing to do in the meantime.

Mike, please check with Onkyo on this.  I don't know all the models possibly affected.

Onkyo released new FW for 609 too.

Yeah, I see that, and the notes associated with it mentions it fixes an issue with speaker distance.

I'm thinking my measurements with the tape measure are just as good though, I'm inclined to not rush to update the firmware and repeat the process right now.
