Taking advantage of full DSX

My Denon is DSX enabled.  Can I utilize both the Heights and Wides at the SAME time with an external amp?  Or would I have to pick between wides OR heights.  This would esentially be a 9.2 setup.

If not, is it possible that a firmware upgrade might do this in the future?

Can bipolars be used as L/R and surrounds if the wides are being utilized...or will this cancel out the wide channels due to the larger footprint of bipolar speakers?

The 3312 is a 7 channel product so there is no way to connect an external amp to expand it to 9 channels.

We highly recommend dipoles as surrounds.  That's what best simulates the diffuse sound found in movie theater surround arrays.  The Wides (and Heights) must be direct radiators.

Thanks Chris.  My setup is all Definitve Technology, so there isnt a dipole option.  Chet over at DefTech said they didnt make dipole because they were too spacious and didnt work well with Dolby Digital or DTS recordings.

So in essence, direct radiators should be used everywhere except the surrounds?  Bipolar would not would since its too spacious?

Our recommendation is direct radiators everywhere and dipoles for surrounds.  Not sure what "too spacious" means...  Dipoles have been shown to match surround arrays well for home theater use.
