I have a Onkyo 3009 featuring XT32 hooked up to PSB Image T45 mains, C40 center and B15 surrounds. After running Audyssey the AVR has set my crossovers to 40hz for the mains, 60hz for the center and 50hz for the surrounds, with the LFE set at 120hz. All crossover settings are within the speakers +-3db rating specs. My question is should I manually adjust my crossovers up to 80hz? If that is the case what is the point of having tower speakers or speakers in general that go below 80hz?
With XT32 there is no real benefit in raising the crossovers to a higher frequency. The filter resolution is very high all the way down to the roll off frequency of the speaker.
As to the "point" of having tower speakers: I'm still looking for it :-)
Some people do not have the space for using or correctly positioning sub's
and some use them as part of a simple 2.0 setup.
So having towers (or other speakers that integrate large woofers) that do a good job at reproducing the low frequencies is the best option. for them
I thought I saw previously mentioned that it was better to use the 80hz crossover setting from mains to sub than a lower one because the resolution was better in the subwoofer channel. Are you saying that the filter resolution for 60-80hz is identical between the filtering processors in the mains and those in the subwoofers? Thanks. Zac.

With XT32, the filter resolution for the subwoofer(s) is identiical to the resolution of the satellites. It is 512x where x is the resolution of Audyssey 2EQ. The name XT32 is because the satellites has 32 times better resolution vs MultEQ XT which was/is 16x.
