THX Cinema Mode & Audyssey Movie/Music Settings

Hi Chris, on my Onkyo 709 there are two switchable modes for Audyssey, Movie (reference) and Music (flat). When I use THX Cinema mode to watch a movie, I notice that Audyssey stays in Movie mode, and THX Re-EQ is ON as well. Doesn't that result in double high frequency roll off? Should I switch to Audyssey Music (flat) mode whenever I engage a THX listening mode?

If that's the case, then it seems like a design flaw to me.

    Hi Darryl,

You are correct.  Onkyo is supposed to switch off the THX Re-EQ when you go to Audyssey Movie mode that already has a built-in roll off.  I am surprised that they are not.  I wonder if there is a buried setting in the menu that you can use to undo that link.

Thanks Chris! I have basically memorized the manual, and have a good grasp on the unit, and if there is a way to prevent Audyssey Movie & THX Re-EQ from interacting, I don't know about it. I was hoping that the 709 would do it internally, and just not show it on the display, but it was fairly noticeable once I cycled through Movie/Music/Thx Re-EQ-ON-Off with test sweeps and real world material, that it was not the case.

In a way it's good, because I like to listen to music with Audyessy in Music (flat) mode, and I used to have to manually switch from Movie mode, but now, I have all of my inputs set to Audyssey Music mode with THX Cinema & Re-EQ for movies, and then I get a flat response for music without having to change anything.

    Chris,
I have an Onkyo TX-NR818 and have decided to use THX Cinema mode with wide fronts. I have calibrated with Audyssey32 and turned off THX-Re-EQ since Audyssey Movie mode is being used. Is this OK and do the speaker calibrations still remain in effect?
    Thanks
