Mix of passive and active speakers shows active out of phase

Hi Chris,

I am using MultEQ Pro on a Marantz AV7005 at a friends place. He is using active speakers - B&M - for FCR and Klipsch for wides, surround and rear surrounds.

Always when I do the first measurement Pro indicates that the active speakers have the wrong phase.

My question now: Is this a result to be expected using active speakers in a mixed configuration or should I change polarities and the phase results always show the right result also in this configuration?

The phase of the active speakers cannot be changed.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards

Markus

Are the Klipsch surrounds a Dipole design?

i.e two drivers, one is in-phase and one out of phase?

    Hi Rob,

yes, they are. But the Dipoles are causing no problems. The Pro Software shows only the active speakers out of phase. All other speakers are OK.

    Hi Markus,

It's not uncommon for speaker makers to intentionally reverse the polarity of one driver. They usually do this to compensate for problems in the crossover region.  If both speakers are in-phase to each other then I don't think there is anything to be concerned about.
