VERY inacurate sub distance measurement

I am about to give up on Audyssey....I had MultXT on my 3311Ci and got a 4311Ci with the MultX32 and I am VERY dissapointed. This is a joke....I am using a boom with Aulex pads to help with vibrations since I am unable to measure with a tripod on my seats...If I do this it tells me my sub is 1 ft away when it is actually 15 ft away. I just spent the last 3 hours trying to get a accurate sub measurement. I did a test run and it gave me a accurate measurement, so I retested it again and it gave me another so I ran thru all 8 steps and it then set my sub at 0.6Ft?? I think multXT32 needs some work or something because I am very dissapointed that I buy a 2,0000 reciever and the Equlizer on it is a joke? Can this be fixed or something?mI was happy with MultXT but not with the X32 at all. If I manually set the distance will this hurt anything?

    Hi Rob,

    The two most likely reasons are (1) the sub volume control is turned up too high and the measurements are clipping the mic or (2) vibrations are entering the mic.  The distance setting is a very small part of what Audyssey does.  It's the filters that are the core of the technology.  There is nothing wrong with setting the distance manually.

    Chris I am sorry for my strong email I was just a bit frustrtated, okay my reciever has a equalizer that has a sub woofer volume test and it has you either turn up the sub or lower the sub to 75 DB..I have mine at about 77-79 Db. How come this was not a issue with the Multxt?? Vibrations entering the mic, how can I overcome this? I have the mic on a boon with aurlex pads to prevent vibrations any other suggestions. So If I set the distance manually it wll not effect the performance of the sub and Audyssey will still apply corrections?     Hi Rob,

    The distance measurement method has not changed at all between MultEQ XT and XT32.  Same identical code.  So, something else must be different.  The initial sub level setting exercise is intended to get you within the range of level adjustment that the receiver allows.  Within 2-3 dB of 75 dB is fine.  The actual precise level setting will come after the measurements are finished.  I would suggest setting the distance manually and not sweating this.  Just do it after the calibrations are finished and stored.  Doing it before will be ignored.

    Will do and did chris and it sounds great, I have to say that the Audyssey DSX sound stage is breath taking LOL!!
