I recently added a HK3490 two-channel receiver to my 5.1 AV system. The two tuners share a pair of front speakers and one powered sub. I am forced to set my sub settings for two channel audio (low/pass and gain settings) because my 2-channel receiver has no sub-woofer controls. Up until adding the 2 channel amp, I've had my Denon AVR control my 5.1 system and used Audyssey to calibrate. Should I to run Audyssey if my sub's LPF is set at 60 (not disabled), and the gain setting is fixed, to calibrate settings when my 5.1 system is in use?

Audyssey Labs Hi Dan,
You can use Audyssey with the sub filter set to 60 Hz, but it's not optimal because the LPF filter will interfere with the measurements and proper bass management in the Denon. I assume your sub doesn't have a "direct" input that bypasses the LPF?

Dan Ritter Chris, My SVS sub has only one set of Low Level Line In input jacks. I have the Denon DVR plugged into the right side and the HK 2 channel receiver in the left input.

Dan Ritter I'll give it a try. I'm hoping to achieve the optimal sub setting in the two-channel mode and I'll settle for pretty-darned-good in 5.1 mode.

Rob Brooks why not use the Denon as a pre-amp/ processor for the 2ch which is tehn passed into your other 2ch receiver and output the sub audio direct from the Denon.

Dan Ritter I'm fairly sure I can't use my Denon AVR (591) as a pre-amp but I'd appreciate another opinion based on the info in this link:

I read through the manual for your model, and it allows you to set pre-outs for front heights or surr back (7.1) but won;t let you assign the pre-outs to the front two channels.
that's very poor form from Denon on that one.
or just good business sense to make you spend more money to get the added features of the next model up.
