Volume Booming in disconnected 3rd Sub Woofer

 

Denon AVP-A1HDCI configured using Audyssey with 3 Sub Woofer Mix.  LFE/Main.

I want to remove the 3rd sub Woofer from the configuration so I set the AVP to a 2 Sub Woofer Mix selection.   The test tones verify the two subs with no volume to the 3rd sub.

I am sending the sub back to the Manufacturer for some maintenance upgrades so I want to leave the cables in place so it is easy to connect when I get the sub back.

So it is logically disconnected until I move it from the HT.

The 3rd sub is still connected  but not configured to the AVP so there should be no audio output from it

When listening to audio I noticed a booming volume coming from the 3rd SW.

How can audio be coming from the 3rd sub?  It is not configured in the AVP.

I had to turn off the sub to stop this audio.  Is there audio outputted in the cables attached to the 3rd sub AVP RCA output. 

What is going on here?  Comments?

    This is called "open input".  If you have a sub turned on and a cable connected to it then you will get this problem because the cable picks up hum.  You need to either disconnect the cable from the sub or turn the sub off.

    Is it OK to leave the cables in place.  I am taking the sub to the manufacturer for some maintenance.

    In general it's not a good idea to have cables connected only on one end.  It's a sure recipe for introducing noise to the system.
