Denon 2113CI, after calibrating Audyssey, what EQ is applied when a 2ch Stereo source is selected?

If your two front speakers are set to Small (as they should be) then their bass is properly directed to the subwoofer.  When listening in 2-Ch mode the Audyssey filters are applied to the two speakers and the sub.  These filters are exactly the same when you switch to surround content.  The acoustical problems of the speakers in the room don't change based on the content.  They are determined by the speaker placement and the room issues.

The Audyssey curve is intended for movie listening and the Audyssey Flat curve is intended for music listening.  We do not support or encourage Byp. L/R because it turns off Audyssey in the front speakers!  We also don't support or encourage Graphic EQ because it also turns off Audyssey and gives you a simple Graphic Equalizer.

Is it possible then to "cheat" an Audyssey calibration for Front-B speakers, if you calibrate them as Surround Back, but place them in the Front-B position (as shown in picture)? 

When you select them as Front-B does Audyssey simply apply the calibration for where they are in the room regardless of what arrangement (Front-B vs Surround Back) they are included in?  Just as it doesn't care what source you are playing through them as long as they are still in the same place and connected the same?

Or is the calibration adding in other spacial/surround effects that would make them sound wrong when isolated as Front-B 2ch play.

Or will Audyssey know that Front-B wasn't chosen during calibration and not apply calibration when Front-B is selected for playback?

I understand that AVRs won't store more than one Audyssey memory for separate Front-B and 5.1, but the speaker connector for Surround Back and Front-B is the same and only the software internals are "naming" the same speaker for different uses.  And Front-B is only assigning a separate Amplifier to Front-B operation.

I can confirm that even after calibrating only the 5.1 speaker set, I was still able to switch-on/apply Audyssey to Front-B operation even though the Front-B spkrs were not included in the initial calibration.  This could just be an oversight on DENON part, but it is allowed, and made me wonder if this "cheat" was due to this allowance.

Denon tells us that they turn off all processing for Front B speakers so this will not work.  Perhaps you have found a way around it!

So am I correct in at least how Audyssey is treating the speaker?  In effect applying the calibration to the speaker where it finds it in the audio space and by connection without regard to how the AVR treats the speaker after the calibration?

Basically, if Audyssey sees the speaker and maps it, it is mapped for that location from then on as long as it is still connected.

Yes, that's basically right.  It's not really a mapping, but rather a measurement of the acoustical problems that the sound from that speaker encounters as it enters the room.
